Pan, that saucy woodland sprite, hides behind a flower as a pair of Atlanta's finest survey the park full of beatniks, musicians, anarchists and wayward southern youth in 1972. Mayor Sam Massell initially tried to make the thousands of wannabe hippies flooding into the city feel welcome. But after Midtown businessmen complained, the welcome mat was jerked away and the busts began.
